Brow Lift

Brow Ptosis (Droopy Brow)

A droopy brow, known medically as brow ptosis, happens when the eyebrow sits lower than its normal, youthful position. It develops gradually over time as the skin, muscle and soft tissue of the forehead lose elasticity and gradually descend under gravity.

How Can a Droopy Brow Affect You?

A low or heavy brow can have both cosmetic and functional effects:

Am I Suitable for Treatment?

A brow lift is not right for everyone, and a consultation with your surgeon is needed to assess your individual anatomy. In general, you may be a suitable candidate if:

  • You have a genuinely low or descended brow position, rather than simply excess upper eyelid skin alone
  • You are bothered by the tired, sad or heavy appearance of your brow, or experience brow-ache/headaches from compensating with your forehead muscles
  • Non-surgical options (such as botulinum toxin brow lifting) have not given a long-lasting enough result
  • You are in good general health, are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking well before and after surgery, and have realistic expectations of what surgery can achieve
  • You do not have uncontrolled medical conditions that would make anaesthesia or wound healing higher risk

Your surgeon will also examine your forehead height, hairline position, skin quality, brow shape and the balance between your brow and upper eyelids, since these factors determine which specific technique (if any) will suit you best.

Treatment Options – an overview

Brow ptosis can be treated non-surgically or surgically, depending on the degree of descent, the amount of volume loss present, your anatomy, and your personal goals. Options range from temporary, no-downtime treatments to more lasting surgical repositioning.

What to expect from your consultation

Your consultation is focused on understanding your concerns and finding the right treatment (or combination of treatments) for you.
