Following specialist training in ophthalmic surgery in Ireland, Janice undertook three advanced surgical fellowships. She focused first on Cataract and Refractive Surgery at the Mater Private Hospital, then specialised in Glaucoma at Manchester Royal Hospital, developing expertise in minimally invasive techniques to lower intraocular pressure with reduced complication rates. Her final training in Oculoplastics was completed at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin and the Salisbury Oculoplastics Unit in the UK, training under internationally renowned specialists in both reconstructive and cosmetic approaches.
Since 2015, Janice has been based in Waterford with her family, working as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at University Hospital Waterford. Her expertise spans cataracts, glaucoma (including minimally invasive approaches), eyelid conditions, blepharoplasty, facial palsy and aesthetic oculoplastics.
Janice is committed to ongoing learning, regularly attending cutting-edge courses, meetings and international conferences. She has been an invited lecturer at both national and international meetings, with a particular passion for aesthetic education and governance. She has also contributed to clinical guidelines on the management of aesthetic complications.
What is Oculoplastics? Oculoplastics is a subspecialty involving the delicate tissues and planes of the face — particularly the eyelids, under-eye area, forehead and mid-face. It demands meticulous technique and a keen aesthetic sensibility. Janice enjoys the challenge of enhancing her patients’ natural beauty with a personalised approach and a light touch, with particular expertise in rejuvenating the area around the eyes, cheeks and brow, and sculpting of the lower face.
