Definisse Threads
At Eye and Face Clinic, Dr Janice Brady offers cutting edge Definisse thread treatments
There are two main subcategories available –3D Lift threads and smooth Revitalise threads. Both dissolve naturally over time leaving no permanent implants or visible scarring.
3D Lift threads are barbed and work provide both a lifting and collagen stimulating effect. Revitalise threads are smooth and primarily work to stimulate collagen and rejuvenate ageing and crepey skin.
What can they treat
Barbed Threads
Barbed threads are typically used to address mild to moderate sagging in areas such as:
- The cheeks and mid-face
- The jawline and jowls
- The area beneath the chin and neck
They are best suited to patients with early-to-moderate skin laxity who want a lifting effect without surgery.
Revitalise Threads
Are used to improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and firm lax skin on the face, neck, and abdomen
How Do They Work
3D Lift threads
3D Lift threads are fine, absorbable threads inserted beneath the skin to gently lift and reposition sagging tissue. Unlike smooth threads, they have tiny barbs (or “cogs”) along their length that grip the surrounding tissue, allowing for a more noticeable lifting effect.
Once inserted, the barbs anchor into the tissue, allowing the practitioner to gently reposition and lift sagging areas. Over time, the presence of the threads in the tissue stimulates the body’s own repair processes, encouraging new collagen and elastin production. Definisse threads are fully absorbable, gradually breaking down over time as the natural tissue support takes over.
Revitalise Threads
Revitalise threads are a regenerative treatment that stimulate the skin to produce elastin and collagen – the molecules that keep our skin young-looking. Skin appears smoother and fine lines are reduced, refreshing not just how you look but also how you feel.
Unlike older generation threads, they stimulate both Collagen Type 1 and Type 3 for up to 18 months while the material is gradually absorbed by the body over a longer time period (up to 18 months) than older threads (which only stimulate Collagen Type 1) and only last for around 6 months.

How Long Does Treatment Take?
The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the number of threads used and the areas treated. It’s generally done as a walk-in, walk-out procedure with no need for general anaesthesia or an overnight stay.
Potential Downtime
Most patients return to normal daily activities within a day or two. You may experience:
- Mild swelling or bruising, usually settling within 3–7 days
- Slight tightness or pulling sensation in the treated area for the first week or so
- Temporary dimpling or puckering of the skin, which typically resolves as the tissue settles
Strenuous exercise, extensive facial movements (like wide yawning), and facial massage should be avoided for the first 2–4 weeks to allow the threads to settle securely.
Potential Side Effects
Most side effects are mild and settle without treatment. These can include:
- Bruising, swelling, or tenderness at treatment sites
- Temporary asymmetry while swelling resolves
- Visible or palpable thread ends, especially in thinner skin
- Rarely, infection, skin dimpling, or thread migration/extrusion — your practitioner will discuss how these are managed if they occur
Your practitioner will go through your full medical history and discuss any specific risks relevant to you at your consultation.
DAY 1-4
Swelling, bruising, tenderness peak in 24–48 hours. Tightness when smiling/chewing and mild puckering are common, easing as swelling reduces.
DAY 5-14
Swelling and bruising fade; tightness eases and lift becomes clearer.
1 MONTH
Swelling resolved; lift established, skin firmer as collagen builds.
TREATMENT FREQUENCY
Results last 12–18 months.
