Dermal Filler

Dermal Fillers

As we age, we naturally lose volume and structure in our face. This gradual change is most commonly seen around the eyes, temples, cheeks, and corners of the mouth — leaving us looking tired or older than we feel. At Eye and Face Clinic, Consultant Surgeon Dr Janice Brady uses FDA-approved dermal fillers to restore that lost volume, soften lines, and lift and define the face — with results that are natural, subtle, and tailored entirely to you.

What it treats / Common concerns

How it works

Dermal fillers are sterile hyaluronic acid gels, injected beneath the skin to restore volume and smooth lines. As hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, it integrates seamlessly with tissue and can be dissolved if needed — making it one of the safest, most trusted aesthetic treatments available.

At your consultation, Dr Brady will assess your facial anatomy and goals to recommend the right filler and technique. Most patients prefer soft, natural results built gradually over several appointments; more comprehensive plans are available for those wanting more noticeable change.

What it feels like

Your comfort is our priority. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most of the fillers we use also contain a local anaesthetic to further minimise any discomfort. Appointments typically take between 30 and 45 minutes depending on the areas being treated.

Results are visible immediately. Any minor swelling or bruising will settle within a few days, revealing your final result. Dermal fillers typically last between 6 and 12 months, with some of our newer products lasting up to 24 months. All new patients are invited back for a follow-up review appointment to assess their results and ensure they are completely happy.

Risks & side effects

Swelling, redness, and tenderness at injection sites, usually settling within a few days. Bruising, which can occasionally last up to two weeks, especially in thinner-skinned areas like the lips or under-eyes. Mild lumps or bumps under the skin that often smooth out as the filler settles. Itching at the injection site. Asymmetry immediately after treatment, which can sometimes resolve on its own as swelling goes down.

DAY 1-4

Initial swelling, tenderness
at the injection site. Bruising may also appear.

DAY 5-14

Bruising and swelling continue
to fade. The treated area begins
to feel softer as the filler integrates and settles into place

1 MONTH

Results are fully visible. The area looks and feels natural.

FOLLOW-UP

Treatment Frequency Every 6 - 18 months, depending on area treated.

Combining Treatments

Anti-wrinkle injections – Often paired as a “liquid facelift”: toxin relaxes dynamic wrinkles (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet) while filler restores volume and static lines.

Skin boosters (e.g. Profhilo) – Hydrate and improve skin quality, complementing filler’s volumizing effect. Often used to prep before or alongside filler for a natural, refreshed look.

Microneedling – Improves texture and fine lines, addressing surface quality while filler tackles structural volume loss.

Chemical peels – Improve pigmentation and texture. Usually spaced apart from filler sessions to avoid irritation.

Laser resurfacing or IPL – Targets sun damage, pigmentation, and skin tightening — addressing issues filler alone can’t fully correct.
