Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning exfoliates the skin, removing dead cells and fine vellus hair (“peach fuzz”). Using a sterile, medical-grade scalpel, Gillian gently scrapes the skin’s surface to reveal a brighter, more even complexion.

Unlike chemical peels or microdermabrasion, it’s purely mechanical — the blade’s physical action makes it suitable for most skin types.

The result: instantly smoother, brighter skin, perfectly primed to absorb the products applied afterwards.

What it treats?

How it works

The science of dermaplaning lies in its ability to enhance the skin’s natural cell turnover process. Our skin naturally sheds dead cells to make way for new ones, but this process can slow down due to factors such as ageing, sun damage, and environmental stressors.

During the treatment, Gillian holds a sterile surgical-grade scalpel at a precise 45-degree angle and uses gentle, controlled strokes to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair simultaneously.

The treatment is completely comfortable — most people describe it as a light scraping sensation that is oddly satisfying. There are no needles, no chemicals, and no heat involved.

Can you replace what it feels like to Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?

This is one of the most common questions about dermaplaning — and the answer is no. Vellus hair will slowly grow back over the course of a month. It may feel a bit rough for a day or two as it breaks the surface, usually about two weeks after treatment. Dermaplaning only affects vellus hair, which grows back exactly the same way as before. The treatment does not alter the hair follicle and will not cause hair to grow back heavier, darker, or coarser.

Risks & Side effects

It is not recommended for those with active acne breakouts, as the blade can spread bacteria and cause further irritation. Gillian will always assess your skin thoroughly during your consultation to ensure dermaplaning is the right treatment for you.

DAY 1

Slightly pink, fade within hours. Smoothness and glow visible right away.

DAY 1-2

Redness resolves. Skin feels smooth; makeup applies evenly.

WEEK 1-2

Skin stays bright as product absorption improves.

WEEK 4-6

Results fade as skin renews and hair regrows. Time for another treatment.

Combining treatments

Dermaplaning works beautifully as a preparation for other facial treatments, as the removal of the dead skin cell layer allows active ingredients to penetrate more deeply and work more effectively. Dermaplaning can be paired with AlumierMD chemical peels to maximise results, and is frequently recommended by Gillian as part of a broader skin health programme alongside injectable treatments performed by Dr Brady.

Aftercare & review

Dermaplaning is excellent for more delicate or thin skin that cannot tolerate abrasive exfoliation methods, and skin prone to redness or broken capillaries. You will be provided with personalised aftercare following your treatment.  With good aftercare, your glow and smooth texture should last around 4 weeks before your next session.
